  Cathy Thomas Occupational Therapy Specialised Hand Therapy Services is a group of Occupational Therapists, with Cathy Thomas as Principal, specialising in the treatment and rehabilitation of the hand and upper limb. Cathy Thomas has over 26 years experience in the field of Hand Therapy. Cathy is a Full Member of the Australian Hand Therapy Association and was previously practice partner with Elizabeth Saleeba (Thomas and Saleeba - Specialised Hand Therapy Services). Our referrals come from Surgeons, GPs, Physiotherapists and others. However, you do not specifically require a referral to be seen by us. Our main office is located in WEST PERTH. In order that treatment may be provided close to your home or workplace, we also have metropolitan clinics at SUBIACO (within the Western Australian Plastic Surgery Centre), MIDLAND, JOONDALUP, MURDOCH and ARMADALE, and a country clinic in ALBANY.

  Common conditions include; Fractures/dislocations Minimally/Non-displaced Fractures Tendon, nerve and ligament injuries Mallet and Boutonniere finger injuries volar plate, collateral ligament injuries Crush and Soft tissues injuries Carpal Tunnel Syndrome De Quervain’s, lateral epicondylitis and overuse conditions Arthritis Pain Overuse conditions. We treat a variety of conditions including traumatic, work, sport injuries and post surgical conditions affecting the hand and upper limb. Treatment Treatment often begins within a few days following injury or surgery. It is important that you attend therapy on the day of referral post-operatively as delays may affect your long-term outcome. Splints Splinting is an important aspect of hand therapy. Splints can be used to protect, immobilise, support or mobilise joints following injury or surgery. At Specialised Hand Therapy Services, we have expertise in design and fabrication of all soft and thermoplastic splints and fibreglass casts for the upper and lower limbs. Therapy Depending on your specific needs, expert therapy for any of the following may be required: · Exercises to improve movement · Strengthening · Scar management · Management of swelling · Desensitisation · Pain management · Upper limb and functional assessment.

• Referral and Fees
  Consultation and splint charges can be discussed during your initial consultation. Private patients may receive a rebate from their private health fund if cover includes ancillary services for OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY. Depending on the insurance policy, there may also be a rebate applicable to some splints and equipment required. In some special circumstances partial rebate from Medicare may be available if your GP approves you for the Enhanced Primary Care Program. Worker’s Compensation and DVA accounts can be billed directly to the insurer.
